Work on this nut, rusted in place, continues.
- Oiling, tapping, and heating the nut continues, though no longer every day. It’s possible this will still free the nut, though it seems less and less likely as time goes on. If the nut is cut off it will still need to be freed from the bolt, so any progress here means less work later.
- A replacement nut (20mm, 2.50mm pitch) has been obtained.
- A brace is being constructed to support the staple bolt after the rusted nut has been cut off.
On a related topic, the tenor’s staple bolt locknut worked loose recently, and was retightened firmly. The lower nut was still tight.
